Nathan P. Coussens, Ph.D.

Nathan P. Coussens, Ph.D., is the director of the Molecular Pharmacology Laboratories at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, where he leads three teams focused on the preclinical development of cancer therapeutics. Previously he was a senior research scientist at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), where he developed biologically and pharmacologically relevant biochemical and cell-based assays to identify and characterize small molecule modulators from high-throughput screens for a diverse portfolio of projects. He earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Iowa, where he applied structural and biophysical approaches to the study of host-pathogen interactions. Prior to joining NCATS, Dr. Coussens was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute where he combined biophysical studies, cell biology, and high-resolution imaging to interrogate molecular signaling events initiated by the T cell antigen receptor.

About the Branch Chief

Dr. Mary K. Wolpert, Ph.D. Dr. Beverly A. Teicher PhD is Chief of the Molecular Pharmaco-logy Branch at NCI, a position that she assumed in early 2011. One focus of the Molecular Pharmacology Branch is target and drug discovery for rare and recalcitrant cancers such as sarcoma and small cell lung cancer. Dr. Teicher completed a PhD in Bioorganic Chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University and postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine. More…
